The West Yorkshire market town of Huddersfield is one of the largest towns in the United Kingdom and today has a population in excess of 165,000. It is ideally located, lying close to both the River Colne and River Holme, and is midway between Leeds and Manchester. The town held its own race meeting on Wednesday 5th January 1853, staging a keenly fought Steeplechase which attracted a large field. Although it looked to be competitive on paper, in the event Mr Brooksock’s Lucks’all won with ease. There are no records of further races taking place in the town. |
